TANZANIA MAKES A POSITIVE START ON THE TOUR

ZIMBABWE TOUR ; MATCH 1 ; Tanzania lost its first game to Rhinos by 16 runs. Tanzania winning the toss opting to field first managed to restrict Rhinos to a score of 131/8 in 20 overs with all bowlers doing a good job particularly Salum Jumbe who got 2 wickets. Tanzania couldn''t ask for a better start with Opener and Captain Abhik Patwa and Jatin Darji starting 54 run partnership in just 8 overs. With the dismissal of Abhik, things started to slow down in the chase. However, with the run rate piling up and loss of wickets in the middle overs meant Tanzania came short of 16 runs. MATCH 2 ; Tanzania win the 2nd game by defeating Rhinos by 4 runs. Tanzania won the toss and elected to bat first. The decision to bat first worked well with the opening pair of Abhik Patwa and Jatin Darji once again notching up a 30 runs partnership. However, with both openers going back to the pavilion in the space of 3 balls, the middle order batsmen didn''t turn up to stablize the inning and Tanzania lost 4 more wickets by scoring further 41 runs. With less than 6 overs to go, entered Tanzania''s pinch hitter Zamoyoni Ramadhani and it was his inning of 44 runs (24 balls) which added some weight to the Tanzanian total. Tanzania finished their inning with 134/8 in 20 overs. Rhino''s chase started badly by losing opener TK musakanda in the first over of the 2nd innning. It was a fine inning by Rhino''s T.kataino that kept Rhinos in a comfortable chase despite losing wickets at different intervals. It was Tanzania''s Kassimu Nassoro who finally dismissed Kataino which exposed the tail of Rhino. The equation came down to Rhino requiring 11 to win in 1 over with 1 wicket remaining. Tanzania''s veteran spinner Athumani Kakonzi was given the task to defend the last over and doing very well by just conceding 6 runs and Tanzania getting it''s first victory on the tour. Amongst the bowlers, Ally mpeka was the pick of the lot by pocketing 2 wickets. The victory proved to be a good moral boost and quick recovery from the loss earlier in the day.
