GSCL win 2009 SER Tournament-Conroy Reid


June 12, 13 & 14. Georgia Supreme cricket League entering the South East Regional Tournament for the first time captured the SER trophy on Sun, June 14, when the defeated South Florida cricket Alliance in the finals. The tournament hosted by Atlanta Georgia cricket conference(AGCC) along with 5 other leagues, Georgia Supreme cricket league(GSCL),South Florida Cricket Alliance(SFCA) Central Florida Cricket League (CFCL), Mid Atlantic Cricket Conference (MACC) and Florida South Central Cricket League (FSCL). GSCL came in as the new kid on the block with a lot of confidence and demonstrated that from day 1 against a good central Florida squad. CFCL won the toss and elected to bat. They got off to a flying start scoring 40 after only 5 overs.GSCL bowlers never panic and soon settle down and took the momentum away from CFCL and eventually put them away for 167 all out. S.Merchant got 40. Ed Lewis 39. Ryan Wong 3-48, Hutson Hooper 2-42, Adsyl Hutson 2-32 and John Slocombe bowled well with 3-23. GSCL started their inning poorly loosing the wicket of Lyndon Johnson for 6. Mark Mumby however was join by club mate Leon Garrick and both soon took apart the CFCL bowling before they were both foolishly ran out .Leon Garrick hit 74 and Mark Mumby got 47.GSCl cruise to an impressive 174-3 after only 27.1 overs. Day 2: FSCL won the toss and took first strike and soon found themselves in trouble at 5 for 3.N.Mungal fought hard for 37 along with L.blake 26, however they could only muster 147 all-out against a very economical GSCL bowling attack. Andre Hooper bag 3-41 and John Slocombe with an impressive spell 10-5-14-3.GSCL easily got to 148-3 in 24.1 overs. Mark Mumby 38 and Leon Garrick 67 not out got among the runs again. Day 3: GSCL came into the final round unbeaten against the other undefeated team, SFCA. GSCL without 3 starters due to nagging injuries were still brimming with confidence. Skipper Chris Harris won the toss and elected to bat.GSCL after 15 overs were 101-1. T.Surujbally (3-27) and B.Nayaik came into the attack for SFCA and soon bog down the GSCL batsmen. After 30 overs GSCL crawl to 133-4.With batting up and down the line up, Hutson batting at #8 and Hooper # 9 added an enterprising 65 for the 8 wicket before Hutson fell at last ball of the inning. GSCL inning closed at 241-8 in their allotted 50 overs. Leon Garrick was again among the runs smashing 56 with 8 fours and 1 six. Hutson scored 32 and Hooper hit 28 not out. SFCA raced to 70-1 after 10 overs, then lost some quick wickets and were reeling at 93-4 after 15 overs. V.Nayar (60) tried gallantly with his team seemly assured of victory at 200-6 with 14 overs to go. With the reintroduction of Hutson and Hooper back in the attack SFCA fell apart and were bowled out for 207. Ryan Wong 3-50; Adsyl Hutson 2-37 and match MVP Andre Hooper bagged 3-52.GEORGIA SUPREME CRICKET LEAGUE.
